Position Summary:
The Property Accountant will oversee the preparation of the financial statements, prepared by a third party accounting provider, for a portfolio of industrial real estate properties.

Essential Duties:
The candidate’s responsibilities will be broad, with specific responsibilities including:

  • Oversees preparation of monthly financial statements for a portfolio of properties ensuring accuracy and timeliness of results
  • Partners with third party accounting providers
  • Provides instruction, guidance, and support to external third party staff in all aspects of the preparation of property financial statements, including annual budgets, CAM analysis, account reconciliations, fixed asset additions and deletions, and internal controls
  • Oversee the communication of DCT policies to the third party, and provide ongoing support to them.
  • Assist in the design, refinement, and implementation of property level accounting processes, policies and procedures.
  • Working closely with internal groups to meet SEC reporting requirements.
  • Working closely with due diligence and acquisitions teams to accumulate information required to record property acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Working closely with property management group to provide financial information needed to meet specific reporting requirements. Partner with property management to provide timely and accurate information to assist in effective operations of the properties.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to third party accountants regarding GAAP requirements, and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
  • Works with internal and external audit functions performing quarterly and annual audits
  • Responds to ad hoc requests from financial and accounting leaders effectively and timely

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Position typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related business field. A minimum of three years relevant experience in Accounting, Commercial Real Estate and Property Management required. Assertive, self-motivated, team-oriented individual with strong verbal and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability working with and guiding teams of various sizes across reporting lines required. Solid understanding of GAAP and application of accounting principals, with property management / real estate experience, and strong analytical skills required. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously required. Flexible, detail-oriented, and excellent organizational skills required.
