As a communications leader with 18+ years of experience in corporate and executive communications, crisis communications, public relations, investor relations and branding, Melissa is the Vice President of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations for DCT Industrial (NYSE: DCT).
Melissa is the head of the Corporate Communication and Investor Relation functions at DCT, and leads all strategic planning, development, and implementation of communications and IR programs to further Company objectives and grow the business. Melissa lead a strategic rebrand initiative to create an authentic, elevated and more sophisticated DCT brand. She defined and established a compelling Company story and serves to shape a favorable perception of the DCT among current and potential customers, investors and analysts, employees and business partners. Melissa’s responsibilities include procuring and preparing the C-suite and all market leaders for all external communications opportunities, including all financial communications such as Earnings and investor communications. She is responsible for the Company’s visibility across all targeted audiences and leads the strategic planning, development and execution of all communications initiatives to help Company meet its financial objectives and maintain NYSE and SEC compliance.
Prior to DCT, Melissa served as Director of Communications for The Americas business at Western Union (NYSE: WU), including Global Key Accounts and Global Cards. Melissa led communications in support of U.S. and International Product Management. This included communications and related influencer programs that serve to build the company’s reputation by developing and executing programs and media campaigns that support the company’s business objectives. Melissa’s team was awarded Western Union’s coveted “President’s Award for Business Excellence,” in February 2011. This award is given to a team with a strong revenue and EBIT growth over plan. The repositioning of the U.S. Domestic Money Transfer business resulted in all-time transaction highs and 94 Million dollars revenue, over plan. Melissa also received the Western Union’s Annual Accelerator Award from CEO Hikmet Ersek, for her performance in 2010.
Prior to joining Western Union, Melissa spent five years at International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (NYSE: IFF) leading global corporate communications. Responsibilities included creating and implementing strategic plans for both corporate and business unit communications, leading communications for the C-suite and advising senior executives on marketplace issues relating to IFF’s consumer goods divisions.
Melissa holds a Master of Science in Strategic Communications from Columbia University in New York City, a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The University of Miami. Additionally, she completed the Executive Education Program “Strategy, Accounting, Finance and Communication” from the Leeds School of Business at University of Colorado at Boulder.
Melissa is a member of the prestigious Arthur W. Page Society and the Westmeath CCO-CMO Roundtable. Additionally she is a member of the International Association of Business Communications and National Investor Relations Institute. She lives in Denver with her husband and two sons.
